Yarra4Life
Yarra4Life is a government and community initiative involving thousands of hectares of indigenous revegetation in Victoria’s much-loved Yarra Valley. Just one of the reasons why TreeHouse chooses to support Yarra4Life is because it works to restore the habitat of Victoria's bird emblem, the rare and critically endangered Helmeted Honey-eater. Less than 150 Helmeted Honey-eaters remain in the wild. The Friends of the Helmeted Honey-eater devote themselves to improving the bird’s habitat within the Yellingbo Nature Conservation Reserve. In addition, the Macclesfield Landcare Group is working with local landholders to create bushland corridors so the birds can reach neighbouring parks and build up their numbers.
Yarra4Life also saves existing habitat and plants biolinks to ensure the survival of a number of other threatened native species, like Victoria's animal emblem, Leadbeater's Possum. With thousands of trees planted every year, the amount of carbon being captured from the atmosphere is increasing as well.
