About Us
From a vision for our children's children
TreeHouse Recycling and Reforestation is the realisation of a dream held by Mike Cartan and Jennifer Cooley. The pair once owned a successful business which provided services to the construction industry. As part of meeting their clients' needs, they spent many years on large development sites where they witnessed a devastating amount of land clearance.
After these residential and commercial developments were completed, there were virtually no trees planted, no relaxing green landscapes and no birdlife.
Once they became parents to their three young children, Mike and Jenny realised they also had to become the change they wanted to see in the world. They were passionate about replanting the landscape, creating new ecosystems and making sure their children’s children could climb trees, play in treehouses and spot native birds.
They identified synergies between recycling paper and reforestation, given that both could help cut Australia’s alarming growth of damaging greenhouse gases. TreeHouse is the result.
Our model and mission
The TreeHouse business model is simple: customers pay a fee for collection of office paper, which is shredded and sold to paper recycling companies who produce tissue and other paper products. The revenue from this paper recycling provides the funding for the company’s tree planting projects.
From collection through to processing, our company's achievements in minimising carbon emissions is truly impressive – which is great news for organisations who are building a reduced carbon supply chain.
While our business is office paper recycling and secure document destruction, our mission is to continually increase the support we give to tree planting projects. We fund this support via our income from TreeHouse.
That’s how much we care about reducing the impact of climate change on Australia.
